Performs as the circulating nurse and patient advocate during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative period. Adheres to basic aseptic technique principles in performing nursing care in the operating room. Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome; modifies the plan of care based upon the evaluations.
Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes. Delegates unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care/support activities.
Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult situations.
Reassesses patient systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and recognizes and responds to patient emergencies.
Participates in orientation of new staff/students on the unit.Â
Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
Participates in the unit's continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance.
Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians/providers, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously.
Assumes relief charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness.
Maintains professional currency by attending seminars, scheduled departmental meetings, and outside educational offerings.
Performs other duties as required.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:Â
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana required. BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers required upon hire. ACLS or ALS, and PALS required within 6 months of hire. One year OR nursing experience preferred. BSN preferred.
